Distill and Disseminate: The Reality Projects
Our inaugural project is the Vaccines and Autism Reality Project.
Problem Statement
Throughout the federal government, agencies have shifted from a system for creating evidenced based policy to one of creating policy-based evidence. The powerful megaphone of the department of Health and Human Services is now repeatedly used to misinterpret and misrepresent scientific evidence making one of the most reliable and objective sources of evidence and data to support public policy into a dangerous source of misinformation. A key goal of the Reality Project is to provide an objective, apolitical counterweight to this misinformation.
Concept:
The Reality Projects will generate systematic, objective, apolitical assessments of scientific assertions relevant to public policy.

Educate
Last spring, Dr. Morris launched the first course at the UW School of Public Health focused on science misinformation. We are currently preparing an online version of that course to be launched this spring.
